New York-1947: A Large Group Of Women In Formal Attire March Around In Unison

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for 1940s New York archival requests needing women’s civic parade or formal marching-group footage for documentary, museum, education, or period montage use.

Period detail

Matching dark coats and hats, carried flags, parked mid-century cars, utility poles, and low suburban buildings support a late-1940s community-event setting.

Home-movie behavior

The clip preserves a spectator-level home-movie view of an organized women’s procession crossing an open paved area rather than a staged studio scene.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include rows of women in dark coats, two flag bearers, an American flag, paved parade ground, parked cars, utility poles, bare trees, and low buildings.

Film character

The 8mm footage has soft focus, mild grain, slight exposure variation, gate edges, and handheld framing that give the scene recognizable home-movie texture.

Edit role

An editor could use this as a short insert, transition, or social-history cutaway for women’s groups, civic rituals, parades, or mid-century community life.

Historical context

The procession visually suggests organized women’s participation in a civic or community event, but the specific group, occasion, and venue are not identified in the frames.

Research note

People and faces are visible, so likeness and context review may be needed; no logos or private interiors are apparent, and copyright clearance is separate from appearance rights.
