Baby Elephants in Wooden Enclosure — Clip Details

COLOMBO CEYLON-1946: Two baby elephants stand and move within a wooden enclosure, their trunks reaching for green bamboo stalks scattered on the floor. Shot on 8mm film, the footage captures the young elephants in a naturalistic setting, their grey, textured skin and small ears clearly visible. The dim, warm lighting and noticeable film grain lend a nostalgic, archival quality to this historic home movie clip. The elephants interact with their environment, showcasing their playful and curious nature in a quiet, observational moment.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s documentary or educational requests needing home-movie footage of young elephants in Colombo, then Ceylon.
Period detail: The 8mm color look, wooden pen, and metadata-supported 1946 Colombo setting place the scene in a mid-1940s home-movie travel context.
Home-movie behavior: The camera observes quietly from above as the elephants feed and move, giving the clip the feel of a visitor's unstaged record.
What appears in frame: Two young elephants, green bamboo stalks, a wooden enclosure floor, rail edges, dim warm light, and visible film borders are present.
Film character: Soft focus, heavy grain, warm exposure, and slight handheld framing give the short scene a physical 8mm archive texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief animal cutaway, travel-memory insert, or transition within a South Asia archive sequence.
Historical context: The footage offers a mid-century visitor view of captive young elephants without showing keepers, crowds, signage, or a named institution.
Research note: No people or brands are visible, but copyright, location permissions, and animal-captivity context should still be reviewed for use.
Research search match: Searches such as 1940s Ceylon elephants, Colombo home movie animals, baby elephants feeding, and 8mm travel footage match this clip.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other 1946 Colombo or Ceylon material, then broader vintage elephant or zoo-animal footage.
