Funeral Casket With Floral Arrangement — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1966, this vintage home movie captures a solemn funeral procession in Des Moines, Iowa. A purple casket rests on a hearse, adorned with a large floral arrangement of white, pink, and yellow flowers. The scene unfolds outdoors in a grassy area with trees in the background, viewed through a dark frame suggesting the footage was captured from inside a vehicle. The film exhibits natural grain, slight color fading, and authentic Super 8 imperfections, conveying a poignant, nostalgic moment from a mid-century American funeral.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1960s documentary or editorial requests needing a brief home-movie view of an American funeral casket on a hearse in Des Moines, Iowa.
Period detail: The metal casket hardware, floral spray, hearse placement, and 8mm color stock support a mid-1960s funeral setting without identifying a specific cemetery or service.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an observational home-movie viewpoint, seemingly filmed from a nearby vehicle or shaded position rather than staged for the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a purple-toned casket, silver handles, floral arrangement, hearse platform, grass, trees, and dark film-frame borders.
Film character: The footage shows 8mm grain, soft focus, slight color shift, uneven exposure, and frame-edge shadows that add physical-film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a solemn insert, memory beat, funeral transition, or cutaway for mid-century family, death, or mourning sequences.
Historical context: The scene reflects a formal outdoor funeral moment, with floral tribute and casket presentation visible but no mourners or officiants shown in these frames.
Research note: No faces, logos, or private interiors are visible, but funeral imagery is sensitive and copyright, cemetery, and contextual permissions should be reviewed separately.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1966 Des Moines 8mm funeral footage, vintage home movie casket on hearse, and mid-century American funeral floral arrangement.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1966 Des Moines material, then broader home-movie funeral or memorial footage.
