New York City-1956: Boys Playing Baseball Near A Parked Car

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Supports 1950s New York City requests needing brief home-movie street play, urban recreation, or neighborhood baseball atmosphere for documentary or editorial use.

Period detail

The parked mid-century car, asphalt street, manhole cover, and high-angle home-movie view may show an urban New York residential block in the mid-1950s.

Home-movie behavior

The footage has unstaged value in its casual street game, with one player swinging a bat while another crouches nearby under harsh artificial light.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include two people playing baseball, a bat, dark asphalt, a manhole cover, a parked car edge, strong shadows, and window-like framing.

Film character

The 8mm image carries dense grain, high contrast, color shifts, soft focus, and uneven exposure that give the nighttime street scene its physical-film texture.

Edit role

An editor could use this as a short insert, memory beat, or transition for mid-century city childhood, street games, or after-dark neighborhood life.

Historical context

The clip visually suggests informal recreation in a city street before dedicated play space dominates the frame, but it should not be used to claim a specific block or event.

Research note

People are visible and likeness review may be needed; no logos are clear, and copyright clearance should be assessed separately from privacy or property concerns.
