Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s U.S. zoo-life requests needing editorial home-movie footage of a polar bear in an enclosure with visitor-area context.
Period detail: The 8mm color, metal railings, painted warning sign, and zoo rockwork may show early-1970s public animal-display design in Colby, Wisconsin.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot perspective, lingering on the bear and enclosure details rather than staging action for the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a polar bear, rock ledge, enclosure wall, metal fence, red do-not-feed sign, small placard, walkway, and distant visitors.
Film character: The footage carries handheld 8mm texture with soft focus, visible grain, purple color shift, and uneven exposure typical of aged home-movie film.
Edit role: Editors can use it as a short zoo insert, animal cutaway, travel-memory beat, or transition into archival material about public animal viewing.
Historical context: The frames show a zoo visitor environment where the animal is separated from the public by railings and signage, without identifying a specific institution beyond supplied metadata.
Research note: People appear at a distance and signage is visible, so copyright, likeness, and property or venue permissions should be reviewed separately before use.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1972 8mm polar bear zoo footage, Colby Wisconsin home movie, vintage zoo enclosure, and visitors viewing animals.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent same-reel zoo or travel shots, then with 1972 Colby Wisconsin material, then with broader vintage zoo and animal-viewing footage.
