Women Wearing Hats Look At Ocean Liner In Open Water — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1964, this vintage home movie captures a majestic ocean liner sailing across the open sea under a bright sky. The footage, likely filmed from another vessel, shows the large passenger ship with its distinctive smokestack and white superstructure cutting through blue waters. The final frame shifts to a close-up of women on deck, one wearing a vibrant red, blue, and white feathered hat, while another sports a playful polka-dotted headpiece, both enjoying the sunny day. The film exhibits classic Super 8 grain and color shifts, evoking a strong sense of mid-century travel nostalgia.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s Caribbean travel footage for documentary or editorial sequences needing an ocean liner sighting and shipboard tourists in Montego Bay.
Period detail: Visible period clues include 8mm color stock, mid-century passenger-ship styling, bright deck leisurewear, and decorative women's hats.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged tourist viewpoint from a moving vessel, ending with women on deck reacting casually to the sea outing.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a large ocean liner, blue open water, bright sky, deck rail, women in hats, feathered trim, and boat wake.
Film character: The footage shows handheld 8mm texture with soft focus, blue color shift, visible grain, and slight exposure variation across the contact frames.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a travel insert, ship-at-sea cutaway, Caribbean arrival transition, or brief memory beat in a cruise sequence.
Historical context: The footage reflects leisure travel by sea in the mid-1960s, seen through a private home-movie record rather than a staged travel film.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed even where copyright and physical-film ownership are handled separately.
Research search match: Useful search phrases include 1964 Montego Bay ocean liner, 8mm Caribbean cruise, women wearing hats on boat, and vintage ship at sea.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other Montego Bay 1964 travel footage, then broader 1960s cruise, ocean liner, and tourist-deck scenes.
