Camden New Jersey USA-1964: Boat Glides Across Lake, Horse Grazes on Lawn

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills 1960s American suburban leisure requests — suits documentary editors and educators seeking authentic Mid-Atlantic family-life visuals for postwar Americana or New Jersey regional sequences.

Period detail

A green-and-white striped patio umbrella, folding lawn chairs, and a small recreational motorboat are consistent with early-to-mid 1960s American suburban domestic life; 1964 is noted in source metadata.

Home-movie behavior

An amateur cameraperson captured both a casual lakeside boat pass and an unposed backyard moment of a person tending a horse while guests relaxed nearby — scenes absent from professional productions of the era.

What appears in frame

Small motorboat with white wake on dark blue water, dense forested treeline, bright residential lawn, green-and-white striped patio umbrella, folding lawn chairs, seated figures in background, brown horse, person in yellow short-sleeved shirt.

Film character

Captured on 8mm with a pronounced blue colour cast over the water sequence, visible grain throughout, soft-focus edges, and slight exposure variation at the cut — characteristic of consumer-grade reversal film stock from the early 1960s.

Edit role

The lake-and-boat shots function as an establishing or transitional cut; the horse-and-lawn sequence works as a cutaway or memory beat within a 1960s suburban leisure or Americana montage.

Historical context

Recreational motorboating, backyard horses, and patio entertaining reflect mid-century American suburban prosperity; Camden, NJ was part of the Philadelphia metro area and a mixed residential-industrial community by this period.

Research note

Adult faces are identifiable in at least two frames and require independent likeness clearance; the setting appears to be private residential property; no logos or brand marks are visible, but standard editorial review is advised.
