Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

This 5-second 1964 8mm clip suits documentary and editorial requests for mid-century American leisure, waterfront recreation, and everyday suburban summer scenes.

Period detail

The pronounced blue-shifted color palette and visible grain are consistent with aged 1964 8mm amateur stock; a small rowboat on a grassy bank suggests casual recreational use of this waterway.

Home-movie behavior

An amateur cameraperson panned from a grassy shore across the river, capturing a passing motorboat in an unscripted moment that conveys the unhurried pace of a 1960s family outing.

What appears in frame

Frames show a small rowboat on a grassy bank, calm river with gentle surface texture, a dense far-bank tree line, an overcast sky, and a motorboat crossing with a visible white wake.

Film character

Pronounced blue-shift and fine grain run across all four frames, reflecting aging of the original 8mm emulsion and lending the clip an authentic mid-century atmospheric quality.

Edit role

Works as a tranquil establishing shot or contemplative cutaway in a 1960s documentary, or as a quiet memory beat between more active sequences in a personal or historical essay.

Historical context

Recreational boating on inland waterways was a common family leisure activity in mid-Atlantic American suburbs during the early 1960s; this footage may reflect that culture near Camden, New Jersey.
