Los Angeles California USA-1962: Matador And Bull In Traditional Arena

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1960s sports and cultural-history documentaries needing live-action bullfighting footage from mid-century North America, usable as editorial b-roll or a cultural-tradition sequence.

Period detail

The matador's traje de luces, hand-lettered advertising banners above the stands, and saturated 8mm color palette are consistent with early 1960s bullfighting venues; signage in frame 0 appears in Spanish.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a spectator position at close-to-medium range without a tripod, the camera tracks arena action in a way that reflects an amateur filmmaker filming from near the barrera.

What appears in frame

Matador in white-and-gold suit with pink accents, red muleta cape, dark bull with colorful banderillas, sandy arena floor, red barrera barrier, spectators in stands, and Spanish-language advertising signs.

Film character

Warm color saturation, moderate grain, and occasional motion blur typical of 8mm home-movie stock from the early 1960s give the footage a textured archival quality.

Edit role

Functions as a close-action insert or cutaway within sequences on mid-century bullfighting culture, sport history, or Latin American cultural traditions.

Historical context

Bullfighting was practiced at venues in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico in the 1960s; the Spanish-language advertising visible in the wide shot may speak to the venue's cultural and geographic context.

Research note

The matador's face is identifiable in multiple frames; crowd members are visible in stands; advertising signs with legible text appear in frame 0; venue location should be independently verified before editorial use.
