Los Angeles California USA-1962: Bull Charging At Arena Performers Holding Flags

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Answers 1960s arena and bullfighting requests for documentary or social-history productions covering mid-century spectator sport and American border tourism.

Period detail

Kent cigarette and Vinos Santo Tomas wine advertising hoardings are consistent with early-1960s branding; the red barrera and curved blue metal gate suit arena architecture of that era.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a fixed spectator seat, this footage reflects an amateur filmmaker attending the event in person rather than staging the action.

What appears in frame

Dark bull crossing sandy arena floor, red circular barrera, curved blue metal gate, packed spectator stands, Kent and Vinos Santo Tomas advertising banners, matador with pink cape, heavy film-edge vignetting.

Film character

Heavy color bleaching and coarse grain typical of 8mm stock from the early 1960s; dark film-edge vignetting on all frames confirms the original film format.

Edit role

Serves as an action insert or wide-establishing cutaway in sequences on arena sport, border tourism, or mid-century spectator culture.

Historical context

The Vinos Santo Tomas hoarding — a Baja California producer — raises the possibility this arena is across the US-Mexico border, as bullfighting was not practiced in California; venue should be independently verified.

Research note

Crowd members and performers appear as distant figures; Kent and Vinos Santo Tomas brand signage is clearly visible and may require trademark review depending on editorial context; location attribution should be verified before production use.

Research search match

Likely matches researcher searches for 1960s bullfighting arena footage, vintage bull ring home movie, mid-century arena spectators, or 8mm Baja California border sport.
