Los Angeles California USA-1962: Matador Performs In Bullfight With Charging Bull

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits a 1960s cultural documentary or travel segment needing a brief amateur-shot corrida sequence for use as an insert or illustrative cutaway.

Period detail

The matador's ornate embroidered traje de luces and red muleta are consistent with mid-20th-century corrida dress; banderillas visible in the bull's back suggest the mid-faena stage of the fight.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from the stands at audience distance, the footage reads as a tourist or visitor recording a live corrida as a personal travel memory rather than a staged or professional production.

What appears in frame

Matador in embroidered pink-and-gold suit, red muleta cape, charging dark bull with curved white horns, colorful banderillas in the bull's back, sandy arena floor, and a red barrier wall visible in mid-ground.

Film character

8mm color shows warm, slightly washed-out tones with visible grain and motion blur on the charging bull, consistent with a handheld shot in bright outdoor daylight from spectator distance.

Edit role

Works as a short insert or cutaway illustrating mid-century bullfighting culture within a travel, sport, or cultural documentary; the close pass in frame 0 is the strongest single-cut moment.

Historical context

Corridas were a popular spectator draw in Mexico and Latin America in the early 1960s; the location metadata citing Los Angeles may reflect the filmmaker's home city rather than where the event was filmed.

Research note

The matador's face is identifiable in close frames; a public performance does not automatically resolve likeness rights, and the filming jurisdiction appears uncertain from the title metadata alone.

Archive pairing path

Pair first with other clips from the same reel or filming trip; then with 1960s Mexico or Latin America travel footage; then with corrida, animal performance, or sport sequences from the same decade.
