Locals Bathing and Praying at Ganges River Ghat — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures locals performing daily bathing and prayer rituals at a ghat along the Ganges River in Calcutta, India. Men and boys in traditional dhotis and loincloths stand in the water, wash, and pray on stone steps, while others observe from above. The footage shows natural, unposed activity under bright sunlight, with warm, faded colors and visible film grain. This authentic archival clip offers a glimpse into daily religious life and cultural traditions in mid-20th century India.
