Two Men Sawing Log In A Work Shed By A Waterway — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a quiet riverside scene in Calcutta, India. Traditional Thai-style buildings with ornate roofs line the waterway, while small boats navigate the calm river under an overcast sky. The footage transitions to a dark, shadowy work shed where two men in blue pants laboriously saw a log, their movements illuminated by a single light source. The grainy, slightly faded quality of the Super 8 film adds authentic archival texture, evoking a sense of daily life and manual labor in mid-century India. This authentic, unscripted footage is ideal for historical documentaries, nostalgic content, or cultural studies.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s 8mm home-movie footage useful for requests needing Calcutta waterway views and a brief manual-labor work-shed cutaway.
Period detail: The clip may show mid-century riverside buildings, small boats, simple work clothing, and hand sawing rather than mechanized cutting.
Home-movie behavior: The value is an unstaged visitor perspective, moving from a passing waterway view into observed men working in a dim shed.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a broad waterway, ornate rooflines, trees, small boats, a dark shed, timber, two workers, and a long hand saw.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, gate edges, uneven exposure, and handheld framing give the scan a physical 8mm home-movie character.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a brief establishing insert, labor cutaway, location transition, or memory beat within a South Asia travel or work sequence.
Historical context: The footage places manual work beside a waterborne urban setting without enough visible evidence to identify the exact site or institution.
Research note: People are visible and likeness review may be needed; no logos are apparent, and copyright or location rights should be assessed separately.
Research search match: Likely matches searches for 1962 Calcutta 8mm waterway footage, India home movie labor scene, men sawing log, and riverside work shed.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other Calcutta 1962 waterways, then broader 1960s India manual labor or river transport footage.
