Illinois USA-1962: Street Corner With Digital Clock And Red Car

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits documentary or commercial productions seeking an authenticated early-1960s Midwest streetscape with a legible savings bank sign and an operational LED time-temperature display.

Period detail

The alternating LED time-temperature display, Chesterfield Federal Savings signage, and a partially visible red American automobile all support a circa-1962 Midwest small-town street setting.

Home-movie behavior

The camera holds on the bank's LED sign from across the street, the way an amateur filmmaker might document a novel local landmark rather than following any particular action.

What appears in frame

All four frames show the Chesterfield Federal Savings bank building, an LED sign cycling between a temperature reading of 34 and a time of 10:20, bare deciduous trees, a traffic light pole, and across frames a red classic car and a sidewalk pedestrian.

Film character

Characteristic 8mm color shift toward blue-purple under overcast light, warm amber LED glow on the sign, visible grain, and slight vignetting along frame edges give this footage authentic mid-century home-movie texture.

Edit role

Works as an establishing insert or time-stamping cutaway; the visible time (10:20) and temperature (34) give an editor a documentary anchor for time-of-day placement in a 1960s Midwest sequence.

Historical context

LED time-temperature signs mounted on bank exteriors were a mid-century civic fixture in American small towns; this clip may document an early-generation public digital display in Illinois.

Research note

The Chesterfield Federal Savings name and signage are clearly legible throughout and require editorial or legal review; the pedestrian's face may be partially identifiable and warrants likeness assessment.
