Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Fits archival requests for 1960s American summer recreation on inland lakes, suitable as period atmosphere or contextual B-roll for Midwest leisure documentaries.
Period detail: The 8mm color rendition, boat styles, and dock construction visible in frames suggest mid-1960s American lakeside recreation; the 1962 date is supported by source metadata with high confidence.
Home-movie behavior: Shot from the dock by a watching family member, the camera captures the open lake and moored boats as much as the skier, conveying an unstaged ordinary summer day at the water.
What appears in frame: Open lake water, dock with dark rubber tire bumpers, one or two white motorboats moored at dock, tree-lined far shore, partly cloudy summer sky with cumulus clouds, and 8mm film-edge vignette.
Film character: The footage shows characteristic 8mm blue-shift and slight sky overexposure, with visible grain and a dark film-edge vignette that frames each shot with authentic mid-century texture.
Edit role: Works as a period atmosphere cut or transitional establishing shot to set a 1960s Midwestern summer recreation scene before or after closer action footage.
Historical context: Water skiing became a mainstream American recreational pursuit in the late 1950s and early 1960s, with inland lakes serving as common summer destinations for middle-class families in this era.
Research note: One or more individuals appear per source metadata; likeness rights for identifiable persons should be assessed, though subjects appear small and distant in the extracted frames; no logos identified.
Research search match: Researchers may find this via queries for 1960s American summer lake recreation, Midwest home movie 8mm, vintage water sports, or Illinois leisure footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other clips from the same 8mm reel; then with 1960s Illinois or Midwest lake leisure footage; then with mid-century American boating and water-skiing material.
