Illinois USA-1962: Religious Mosaic Icon On Stone Memorial Structure

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary or educational productions seeking 1960s American religious and memorial site footage for stories about faith, community commemoration, or Midwestern heritage.

Period detail

The small stone outdoor shrine and 8mm capture style are consistent with early 1960s American vernacular religious architecture; the mosaic's style may reflect mid-century ecclesiastical craftsmanship.

Home-movie behavior

The opening wide shot then deliberate zoom to mosaic detail suggests a visitor recording a site of personal or devotional significance, a pattern common in 1960s family travel filming.

What appears in frame

Outdoor stone shrine on grass lawn, dark-framed religious mosaic, two haloed figures (standing and seated) in white and green-red robes, gold mosaic ground, tan stone masonry surround, tree foliage, visible emulsion scratches.

Film character

Moderate color saturation, natural grain, and slight softness in the zoomed close-ups, with emulsion scratches along the mosaic frame edge, give the footage authentic mid-century 8mm archival texture.

Edit role

Functions as a contemplative insert or cutaway for stories about faith, Midwestern community life, or the 1960s American religious landscape, or as an opening establishing shot.

Historical context

Outdoor shrines and memorial structures were common features of postwar Midwestern religious communities; the mosaic appears to reflect Byzantine iconographic influence seen in mid-century American ecclesiastical art.

Research note

The mosaic artwork may carry an independent copyright separate from the memorial structure itself; the commissioning artist or institution should be identified before any commercial use.
