Illinois USA-1962: Green Roof House Peeks Through Trees

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits archival requests for early 1960s American suburban residential exteriors in documentaries, historical montages, or mid-century Americana sequences.

Period detail

Warm reversal-stock color palette and film grain are consistent with early 1960s 8mm practice; no vehicles or independently dateable objects appear to corroborate the stated year.

Home-movie behavior

An unstaged personal record of a family property filmed from an exterior vantage, capturing the house as it appeared naturally embedded in its mature landscaping.

What appears in frame

White house with green roof partially screened by tall deciduous and coniferous trees, mowed green lawn, light-colored driveway or path, a red outbuilding visible through the tree line at right, and blue sky at the canopy crown.

Film character

Warm, slightly saturated reversal-stock color, visible fine grain, and mild handheld drift give the footage the intimate textural quality characteristic of 1960s amateur 8mm home movies.

Edit role

Works as a transitional cutaway or establishing insert in sequences about mid-century suburban life, domestic memory, or regional American residential landscapes of the early 1960s.

Historical context

The mature tree canopy and well-maintained lawn reflect the residential aesthetic common across the American Midwest during the postwar suburban expansion of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Research note

No identifiable persons appear in any frame; the residential property is visible from what appears to be an exterior vantage, but private-property clearance should be assessed under current licensing practice.
