Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1960s American leisure documentary requests; suited to Midwest recreational boating segments, summer-life montages, and editorial packages on post-war river culture.

Period detail

Houseboat styling, small-motorboat designs, and 8mm color palette are consistent with early-1960s American recreational boating; no visible anachronisms.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a moving boat, the camera pans between active river traffic and a docked houseboat, suggesting a personal family outing with spontaneous documentation.

What appears in frame

Wide river with multiple small motorboats underway, boat wakes, dense tree-lined far shore, blue-and-white houseboat moored at dock, porthole windows, residential building visible through foliage, calm foreground water.

Film character

8mm stock shows mid-century color shift — muted warm greens, moderate grain, and soft focus at frame edges consistent with handheld shooting from a moving vessel.

Edit role

Works as an establishing cutaway for summer leisure sequences or a reflective memory-beat insert in Midwest waterway, recreational boating, or mid-century Americana segments.

Historical context

Recreational boating expanded widely in the post-war American Midwest; this footage may reflect the growing accessibility of personal watercraft and river leisure in the early 1960s.

Research note

Figures visible in moving boats at distance, and possible readable text appears on the houseboat hull; both require rights verification before broadcast or commercial use.
