Illinois USA-1962: Lake Surrounded by Trees with Dam

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits 1960s Midwest nature or water-infrastructure documentary sequences requiring an on-the-water perspective with authentic 8mm grain.

Period detail

Full summer deciduous foliage and a concrete sluice-gate dam of mid-century construction style are consistent with early 1960s Illinois; no anachronistic elements visible.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a moving boat, the camera casually pans across the lake and dam as part of a summer leisure outing — unscripted and observational throughout.

What appears in frame

Calm lake water with gentle ripples, a concrete sluice-gate dam, rocky riprap embankment, dense summer deciduous treeline, partly cloudy sky, and a low boat-level vantage.

Film character

Warm 8mm color saturation, visible grain, and slight edge softness give the footage authentic mid-century home-movie texture without obscuring the scene.

Edit role

Works as a transitional cutaway or establishing insert in documentaries covering Midwest waterways, summer recreation, or mid-century water management.

Historical context

Concrete sluice-gate dams of this type were common on managed Illinois recreational lakes in the postwar era; the scene may show a public or park-managed impoundment.

Research note

Metadata confirms people visible; small figures near the dam and shoreline warrant likeness review before editorial use, though individual identification at this resolution is unlikely.

Research search match

Likely matches researcher queries for 1960s Illinois lake, Midwest dam home movie, 8mm water recreation, or vintage American summer nature panning shot.
