Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Fits requests for 1960s Midwestern American leisure scenes, family river outings, or mid-century rural USA for documentary or editorial use.
Period detail: Clothing styles and what appear to be early-1960s vehicle silhouettes on the bank are consistent with the stated 1962 date; a concrete dam or lock structure is visible in the opening frame.
Home-movie behavior: Handheld framing from water level and informal groupings on the bank suggest this was shot by a family member documenting a casual day out on the river.
What appears in frame: Calm river surface, small flat-bottomed boat, person in white hat, rocky shoreline with large boulders, people on the bank, dark vehicle silhouettes, treeline, and a concrete dam structure visible in the first frame.
Film character: 8mm color stock delivers soft, slightly desaturated tones with visible film grain and gentle color drift characteristic of mid-century home movie film.
Edit role: Works as an establishing wide shot of a river scene or a cutaway insert for sequences about mid-century American leisure and family outdoor life.
Historical context: Riverside recreation with cars parked at the water's edge reflects a common mid-century American leisure pattern; road-accessible river spots were central to family outings of this era.
Research note: Multiple adult figures are visible on the bank and in the boat; faces are small but likeness clearance should be confirmed for any identifiable individuals before editorial use.
Research search match: Researchers may find this via searches for 1960s Illinois river, mid-century family boating, vintage Midwest waterway, or 8mm home movie outdoor recreation.
Archive pairing path: Best paired with footage from this same reel or Illinois location; secondarily with 1960s Midwestern river or lake leisure footage; or with mid-century American family outdoor scenes.
