Los Angeles California USA-1962: Dolphin Playing Ball at Marineland

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for 1960s documentary or educational edits needing visitor-shot marine park entertainment, trained dolphin performance, or Southern California leisure footage.

Period detail

The white-uniformed trainers, audience viewpoint, saturated 8mm color, and visible Marineland sign support an early-1960s public dolphin show setting.

Home-movie behavior

The clip preserves a spectator's handheld view from the stands, with audience heads and railings framing the performed animal act rather than a staged production angle.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include a dolphin pool, deck trainers in white, a floating ball, audience foreground, safety railing, show props, and a Marineland sign on the back wall.

Film character

The 8mm scan has coarse grain, high color saturation, slight softness, gate-edge darkness, and handheld framing consistent with amateur home-movie filming.

Edit role

An editor could use this as a short insert, memory beat, or cutaway for mid-century family travel, marine attractions, or changing attitudes toward animal entertainment.

Historical context

The scene shows public leisure around a trained dolphin performance at a marine attraction, reflecting how visitors recorded animal shows in home movies of the period.

Research note

People and a Marineland sign are visible, so use should consider likeness, trademark, location, and copyright questions separately without assuming clearance.
