Car Driving Along Coastal Highway With Pier In Distance — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a drive along a coastal highway in Los Angeles, California. Classic American automobiles from the early 1960s, including a white sedan and a red convertible, move along the road beside a large body of water. In the distance, a long pier or dock extends into the water under a partly cloudy sky. The footage is framed by the dark edges of a window or car interior, giving it a candid, personal feel. The colors are slightly faded, with a distinct vintage hue characteristic of Super 8 film from the era. The final frame shifts to a different location, showing a street scene with a prominent domed building and clock tower, suggesting a transition to a city center. This archival footage is ideal for documentaries, nostalgic content, or historical projects.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1962 Los Angeles-area 8mm driving footage for editors needing coastal road traffic, waterfront movement, or a brief urban transition from a home-movie perspective.
Period detail: Visible period clues include early-1960s automobiles, a waterfront roadway, roadside parking, and a later street view with a domed building and tower-like structure.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has the feeling of a passenger filming through or beside a car window, with passing traffic and a quick shift into a city street scene.
What appears in frame: The frames show moving cars, a broad paved roadway, a seawall or waterfront edge, a distant pier or dock, cloudy sky, and a brief urban street with a domed building.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, muted color, gate edges, slight blur from motion, and handheld exposure shifts consistent with home-movie material.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short travel insert, coastal driving cutaway, period traffic transition, or memory beat between Los Angeles street scenes.
Historical context: The clip visually places private car travel near the waterfront and then in a busier city setting, without enough detail to identify a specific route or landmark.
Research note: People are flagged visible but not clearly identifiable here; separate review may still be needed for likeness, location, copyright, and any property concerns.
Research search match: Useful searches include 1962 Los Angeles 8mm driving footage, coastal highway home movie, early 1960s California traffic, and waterfront road with pier.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1962 Los Angeles footage, then broader California driving, waterfront, or early-1960s traffic scenes.
