A View Of A Big Ship And Of Kids Running And Playing — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1957, this vintage home movie captures a sun-drenched poolside scene in Las Vegas, Nevada. The footage shows a large swimming pool with a prominent "POOL CLOSED" sign, surrounded by lounge chairs and a few people relaxing. A distinctive paddlewheel riverboat structure stands in the background, adding a nostalgic touch. The grainy, slightly faded color palette and visible film scratches enhance the authentic 1950s home movie feel. The camera pans across the area, capturing the leisurely atmosphere of a mid-century American resort.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1950s Las Vegas resort pool footage for documentary inserts about mid-century leisure, travel, hotel amenities, or vacation home movies.
Period detail: The frames show a large pool, metal ladders, lounge furniture, a pool-closed sign, and a decorative paddlewheel-style structure that may reflect 1950s resort theming.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot perspective, scanning across the pool area and nearby people without staged action or formal composition.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a swimming pool, pool ladders, lounge chairs, a pool-closed sign, a paddlewheel riverboat facade, deck paving, and a few distant people.
Film character: The 8mm scan carries soft focus, faded color, gate shadows, dust, scratches, and handheld exposure shifts that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief cutaway, transition, or memory beat for Las Vegas travel, resort life, or mid-century American vacation sequences.
Historical context: The footage documents a leisure setting where themed architecture and poolside amenities appear central to the visitor experience.
Research note: People are visible at a distance and signage appears in frame, so likeness, location, and property context should be reviewed separately from footage copyright.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1957 Las Vegas 8mm pool, mid-century resort swimming pool, vintage hotel leisure, and paddlewheel themed resort footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1957 Las Vegas material, then broader 1950s resort, pool, travel, and family-vacation footage.
