Catskill New York-1957: Group Of People Enjoying A Meal On A Picnic Table

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills a 1950s Americana leisure brief for documentary, educational, or commercial editors needing authentic mid-century family outdoor recreation footage from upstate New York.

Period detail

Late-1950s whitewall-tire automobiles visible in background; plaid bucket hat, patterned sport shirt, and wicker picnic basket are consistent with mid-century American leisure dress.

Home-movie behavior

Candid, unstaged eating and conversation captured by an amateur filmer, giving the footage a relaxed, unperformative quality rarely achieved in professional production.

What appears in frame

Man in patterned sport shirt and plaid hat at a wooden picnic table; wicker basket; wrapped food packages; woman with glasses; late-1950s automobiles; grassy park; trees; blue sky.

Film character

8mm consumer color film stock shows warm saturation, moderate grain, and slight optical softness characteristic of late-1950s amateur footage.

Edit role

Works as a period insert or cutaway in 1950s Americana sequences — an establishing beat for summer leisure, family life, or mid-century outdoor recreation narratives.

Historical context

Mid-century public park picnics were a common American leisure activity; parked automobiles and period dress provide reliable visual anchors for late-1950s dating.
