Albany New York-1955: Shrubs And Trees In The Yard Of A Brick And White Home

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits mid-century American domestic documentary needs; usable as a period insert or cutaway for 1950s suburban residential life sequences.

Period detail

White lap clapboard siding, brick-accented exterior, globe-trimmed shrubs, and tall columnar arborvitae are consistent with mid-1950s suburban residential landscaping conventions.

Home-movie behavior

A front-yard pride shot — a homeowner documenting a well-tended garden in full summer sunlight, with no narrative intent beyond recording the property.

What appears in frame

White clapboard siding, brick exterior section, tall columnar evergreen trees, rounded globe-trimmed shrubs, red or orange border flowers, green lawn, white-framed windows, and concrete front steps.

Film character

Warm, slightly saturated 8mm color palette with visible grain; bright outdoor exposure with characteristic dark frame borders and a subtle gate weave across the four frames.

Edit role

Functions as a brief transitional insert or memory-beat cutaway to anchor a mid-century domestic sequence; at 5s it is too short to stand as a standalone establishing shot.

Historical context

Manicured suburban front yards were a prominent postwar American domestic ideal; the clipped evergreens and flower borders reflect the era's emphasis on home presentation.

Research note

No people or faces are visible; the residential exterior may be identifiable — verify current property owner consent requirements before commercial use.
