Albany New York-1955: Coat Clad Young Women In Full Skirts Pretend Boxing

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills 1950s suburban American social-life requests; suited for mid-century documentary segments, nostalgia reels, or editorial pieces on postwar women's leisure culture.

Period detail

Full-length coats over full skirts, white ankle socks, and mid-century silhouettes suggest mid-1950s dress; bare deciduous trees and dormant lawn indicate late autumn or early spring.

Home-movie behavior

Spontaneous laughter and exaggerated mock-boxing poses reveal unscripted social play that a backyard home-movie session would encourage, with no apparent awareness of staging.

What appears in frame

Two young women in full-length coats, dormant grass lawn, bare-branched hedgerow, thin young sapling, white outbuilding wall, dappled natural light, and motion blur on active frames.

Film character

Warm color shift, visible grain, and pronounced motion blur on the livelier frames are authentic 8mm characteristics that lend a tactile mid-century texture to the footage.

Edit role

Works as a cutaway or memory beat in a 1950s social-history segment, or as a brief insert illustrating women's leisure and spontaneous play in postwar suburban life.

Historical context

Full-length coats, full circular skirts, and white ankle socks reflect mid-1950s suburban fashion; the backyard setting and candid play are consistent with postwar American domestic culture.

Research note

Both women's faces are visible and identifiable across multiple frames; no model releases are documented — clearance for editorial or commercial use should be confirmed with the contributor.
