Albany New York-1955: Simple Suburban Home Covered In Snow

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills 1950s American suburban winter documentary needs: quiet establishing shots, nostalgic Americana montages, and regional snowfall history segments.

Period detail

Ranch-style single-story house with horizontal lap siding and teal-blue shutters is consistent with mid-1950s postwar suburban American residential construction.

Home-movie behavior

A householder steps outside after a heavy snowfall to document the yard and house facade, recording the event rather than staging any activity.

What appears in frame

Deep snow drifts, cream-colored horizontal lap siding, blue-teal shutters, multi-pane windows, snow-laden evergreen shrubs, snow-covered roof eave, exterior wall sconce, utility pole at right.

Film character

8mm color stock renders muted, slightly desaturated tones with visible grain and soft-edged framing typical of mid-century amateur color film.

Edit role

Works as a quiet establishing cutaway or winter memory beat; the static framing and deep snow make it a restful scene-setting insert for documentary sequences.

Historical context

Reflects the postwar suburban expansion when ranch-style homes became common across upstate New York communities; the depth of snow suggests a notable storm event.

Research note

No people or legible signage visible; private residential property is depicted. Confirm licensing scope covers architectural depiction before editorial use.
