Khaki Clad Sailor With Beret Disembarking Boat With... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1946, this vintage home movie captures a sailor in a khaki uniform and black beret standing on a ship's deck. He holds a camera, smiling as he looks toward the lens against a backdrop of open blue ocean and sky. The footage shows slight motion blur and film grain, characteristic of Super 8 home movies from the post-war era. The clip ends with a view of the sea and distant land under a cloudy sky. This archival footage offers a nostalgic glimpse of naval life in the Netherlands shortly after World War II.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s postwar maritime or naval-life requests needing brief home-movie footage of a uniformed sailor on a ship at sea.
Period detail: The khaki shirt, dark beret, ship railings, and small personal camera may show mid-1940s naval or travel attire supported by the 1946 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The sailor smiles and walks toward the filming camera, giving the clip an unstaged exchange between two people aboard a moving vessel.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a khaki-clad sailor, black beret, handheld camera, ship deck railings, rigging, open sea, cloudy sky, and distant coastline.
Film character: The 8mm scan has soft focus, visible grain, slight motion blur, gate edges, and uneven exposure that preserve a home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short insert, travel transition, maritime cutaway, or personal-memory beat before a wider sea view.
Historical context: The footage places an individual in uniform aboard a vessel in the Netherlands context after World War II, without identifying the ship or service branch.
Research note: A visible adult face and possible military uniform require likeness and contextual review; copyright clearance is separate from personality or service-identification concerns.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1946 Netherlands 8mm sailor on ship, postwar naval home movie, beret uniform with camera, and sea deck travel footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then Netherlands 1946 maritime material, then broader postwar sailor, ship deck, and ocean-travel footage.
