A View Of A Regional Map Of Bartlett Cove And Gustavus — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1977, this archival footage shows a close-up of a vintage regional map of Glacier Bay, Alaska. The map details coastal features including Bartlett Cove, Gustavus, Pleasant Island, and the Excursion Inlet, with handwritten notes like 'see inset at left.' The image exhibits classic Super 8 film grain, slight color fading, and a soft focus, capturing a nostalgic, educational moment from a home movie. The map highlights the area's geography and glacial history, with a note indicating the Glacier Bay Ice Sheet was here about 1750. This footage is ideal for documentaries, historical content, or nostalgic projects about Alaska's natural landscape.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s 8mm map cutaway for productions locating Glacier Bay, Bartlett Cove, Gustavus, and nearby coastal features in Alaska.
Period detail: The printed regional map and faded 8mm color may show a 1970s visitor or educational geography reference for Glacier Bay.
Home-movie behavior: The clip reflects a visitor-shot pause on a map, using the camera to orient the trip before or during travel in Glacier Bay.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include Bartlett Cove, Gustavus, Pleasant Island, Beardslee Islands, Excursion Inlet, shoreline outlines, and map annotation text.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, muted color, and slight frame-edge darkness give the shot a physical 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: Editors can use this as a location insert, travel transition, or geographic cutaway before Glacier Bay landscape footage.
Historical context: The map visually places Glacier Bay area settlements and waterways while noting the former ice sheet position around the mid-18th century.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, but map copyright and reproduction rights should be reviewed separately from likeness issues.
Research search match: Useful for searches such as 1970s 8mm Glacier Bay map, Bartlett Cove Gustavus Alaska map, and vintage Alaska travel geography footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent reel footage, then with 1977 Glacier Bay or Gustavus material, then with Alaska maps, travel, or glacier geography themes.
