View Of Petrified Wood And Ash On A Bright Sunny Day — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a close-up view of petrified wood with intricate textures and deep crevices. The rock surface displays a striking purple and pink hue, likely due to natural mineral staining and film color degradation. Sunlight highlights the rugged, layered patterns of the fossilized wood, creating a dramatic contrast between light and shadow. The footage has a grainy, nostalgic quality typical of Super 8 home movies, offering a rare glimpse into a natural landscape in Idaho. Ideal for documentaries, nature projects, or archival content.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1972 Idaho 8mm home-movie cutaway for productions needing archival close views of petrified wood, ash, or textured natural geology.
Period detail: The frames show no built era markers beyond the 8mm color home-movie stock and the supplied 1972 Idaho metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot perspective, lingering close to the rock surface to record texture, shadow, and mineral color rather than a staged scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include ridged petrified wood, dark crevices, ash-like deposits, sunlit highlights, purple-pink color cast, and rough layered stone texture.
Film character: The footage carries visible 8mm grain, strong contrast, slight softness, and aged color shift that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: Editors can use it as a brief geological insert, nature cutaway, transition detail, or memory beat within a travel or landscape sequence.
Historical context: The clip reflects home-movie attention to natural curiosities in an Idaho outdoor setting without showing people, signage, buildings, or identifiable landmarks.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, but users should still assess copyright status and any location-based restrictions separately.
Research search match: Researcher searches may include 1972 Idaho 8mm petrified wood, vintage home movie geology, ash and fossilized wood close-up, or Super 8 nature detail.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then with 1972 Idaho outdoor footage, then with broader vintage geology or natural texture material.
