A Purple-Tinted Landscape With Dead Tree And Dramatic Sky — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a surreal, purple-tinted landscape in Idaho. The footage shows a rugged, tree-covered hillside under a dramatic sky with soft clouds, viewed through a window frame. The distinctive purple coloration suggests a filter or film anomaly, creating an otherworldly, dreamlike atmosphere. Later frames reveal a gnarled, dead tree trunk in the foreground, emphasizing the desolate beauty of the natural terrain. The grainy texture and color shift are characteristic of Super 8 home movies from the era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful 1970s Idaho 8mm landscape footage for documentary inserts, atmospheric transitions, or visual references to altered-color home-movie travel material.
Period detail: The visible clues are mostly filmic rather than cultural, with 8mm grain, purple color shift, and handheld outdoor framing consistent with the supplied 1972 home-movie metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has the quiet value of an unstaged traveler or family camera observing terrain, sky, and a stark fallen tree without narration or posed action.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include dark hillside brush, soft cloud formations, purple sky, vertical window or film-frame edges, open rugged ground, distant hills, and a pale dead tree trunk.
Film character: The clip carries strong physical-film texture through coarse grain, uneven exposure, slight softness, handheld framing, and a pronounced purple cast likely from filter, stock aging, or scanning color shift.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short mood cutaway, memory beat, landscape insert, or transition between travel, nature, environmental, or experimental archive sequences.
Historical context: The material may show a 1972 home-movie view of Idaho terrain, emphasizing personal travel observation rather than a documented public event or identifiable landmark.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, but users should still confirm copyright status, source permissions, and any location-specific use requirements.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1970s Idaho 8mm landscape, purple tinted home movie nature footage, dead tree hillside Super 8, and vintage travel sky cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1972 Idaho outdoor footage, then broader 1970s home-movie landscapes with unusual color casts.
