Interesting Rock Formations With Very Pigmented Colors... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures close-up views of rugged rock formations in Idaho. The footage highlights rich, pigmented textures with earthy browns, deep purples, and subtle metallic sheens, illuminated by dramatic lighting that emphasizes natural contours and surface details. The grainy, analog quality of the Super 8 film enhances the raw, archival feel, offering a nostalgic glimpse into geological formations from the early 1970s. Ideal for documentaries, nature studies, or retro-themed projects.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1972 Idaho 8mm footage suits archive requests for close geological texture inserts, natural color studies, or non-narrative landscape detail in documentary editing.
Period detail: The frames offer few era-specific clues beyond the 8mm home-movie source and 1972 metadata, showing close views of mineral-stained rock rather than dated objects or people.
Home-movie behavior: The clip reflects a visitor's close, observational home-movie attention to unusual rock color, surface relief, and light on natural formations.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include brown clay-like rock, dark purple stone, glossy mineral patches, rough fissures, small pits, shadowed edges, and tightly cropped surfaces.
Film character: The 8mm scan carries visible grain, soft focus, uneven exposure, and slight handheld framing that give the rock surfaces a period home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief cutaway, texture insert, geology transition, or atmospheric memory beat within a larger Idaho or 1970s travel sequence.
Historical context: The footage documents how a 1970s home-movie camera recorded natural geological detail through close framing, strong contrast, and attention to color variation.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, though users should still verify copyright status and any location-specific access or land-use concerns.
Research search match: Searches for 1972 Idaho 8mm rock formations, vintage home movie geology close-ups, mineral texture footage, or Super 8 natural color rock surfaces may match this clip.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent reel material, then other 1972 Idaho footage, then broader home-movie geology, landscape texture, and natural formation clips.
