Nebraska USA-1958: Backyard Gathering With Family Relaxing On Porch

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits documentary producers needing authentic 1950s Midwestern domestic life for memory sequences, social history segments, or postwar American family stories.

Period detail

Denim shorts, a plaid shirt, floral summer dress, and red-cushioned metal lawn chairs are consistent with late-1950s suburban American domestic dress and furnishings.

Home-movie behavior

Unstaged family movement: a woman turns her back to the camera mid-motion while others talk and handle food, capturing the casual rhythm of a backyard afternoon.

What appears in frame

Light blue clapboard house siding, red-cushioned metal lawn chair, wooden dining chair, older woman handling dishes, seated younger woman, man in plaid shirt, green tree canopy, sunlit yard.

Film character

Warm color shift and visible grain are characteristic of 1950s 8mm color stock; slight motion blur in active frames reflects handheld capture in bright daylight.

Edit role

Works as a memory-beat cutaway or social-history insert in documentary sequences on postwar American family life, domestic leisure, or 1950s Midwestern communities.

Historical context

The clothing, outdoor furniture, and clapboard architecture are consistent with working- or middle-class American domestic life in the late 1950s; no branded or public-space elements are visible.

Research note

Multiple identifiable adult faces are visible; likeness rights for living individuals cannot be assumed, and copyright status should be independently verified before broadcast use.
