Nebraska USA-1955: Three People Outdoors Eating and Having Fun

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

A 5-second 8mm shot of a mid-century backyard meal suits documentary sequences about postwar American domestic life or 1950s family history.

Period detail

The metal drip percolator, casual cotton shirts, and warm color palette suggest mid-1950s; the woman's short-sleeved style may show early postwar informal dress norms.

Home-movie behavior

The camera is static and candid — the subjects talk and eat without acknowledging it, giving the moment an unstaged intimacy typical of family record-keeping.

What appears in frame

Woman in light blue short-sleeved top, two men in casual shirts, patterned cloth-covered table, metal coffee percolator, plates and drinking cups, grassy yard, leafy trees.

Film character

Warm color shift, visible grain, and slight edge darkening are characteristic of 8mm reversal stock from this period, lending the footage authentic mid-century texture.

Edit role

Works as a brief memory insert or cutaway in a documentary sequence on postwar Midwestern family life, domestic leisure, or mid-century Americana montages.

Historical context

Backyard dining culture grew in 1950s America alongside suburban homeownership; this clip may illustrate the informal domestic leisure common to that era.
