Nebraska USA-1955: Father In Chair Smoking Cigarette Near Christmas Tree And Fireplace

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Ideal for documentary sequences on mid-century American domestic life, Christmas traditions, or postwar family ritual.

Period detail

Heavy tinsel-draped tree, small colored electric lights, wood-paneled fireplace surround, and the man's dark suspenders all suggest mid-1950s American home décor.

Home-movie behavior

The camera pans from the Christmas tree to the fireplace then settles on the seated man, capturing an unguarded, relaxed holiday moment typical of family 8mm footage.

What appears in frame

Tinsel-covered Christmas tree with red lights, wood-framed fireplace mantel, framed landscape painting above mantel, Santa Claus card in firebox, middle-aged man in white shirt and suspenders, floor lamp, and upholstered seating.

Film character

Warm color cast with visible 8mm grain, slight soft focus, and edge vignetting from the original film scan lend authentic mid-century home-movie texture throughout.

Edit role

Works as an establishing shot for a 1950s Christmas sequence, a domestic interior insert cut, or a memory-beat cutaway in documentary or narrative productions.

Historical context

Indoor cigarette smoking and heavily tinsel-draped Christmas trees both reflect common mid-1950s American domestic practices, preceding later shifts in health and design norms.

Research note

An identifiable adult male is clearly visible across multiple frames; likeness rights cannot be confirmed from archival footage alone — independent clearance review required for commercial use.
