Nebraska USA-1955: Family Gathering Showing Adults Sitting Together Under Shade

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fits archival requests for 1950s American domestic life, mid-century summer family gatherings, or Midwest Americana documentary B-roll and social history productions.

Period detail

The fringed patio umbrella, cloth-covered outdoor table, and summer casual dress are consistent with mid-1950s American backyard leisure culture.

Home-movie behavior

The handheld camera wanders freely, catching candid conversation and relaxed movement at the table in the unguarded manner characteristic of amateur family filmmaking.

What appears in frame

A green-and-white fringed umbrella canopy, a cloth-covered outdoor table, multiple adults in summer clothing, a standing woman in shorts, an inflatable pool in the background lawn, and food items on the table.

Film character

Classic 8mm grain and slightly muted, warm-shifted tones give the footage an authentic mid-century texture; gentle handheld movement adds documentary immediacy rather than detracting from it.

Edit role

Works as a social-context cutaway, memory beat, or illustrative insert in a documentary on 1950s American family life, postwar domestic culture, or Midwest community history.

Historical context

The backyard gathering under a fringed umbrella reflects the postwar suburban leisure culture common in American Midwest communities during the mid-1950s; no specific event is identifiable.
