Chelan Washington USA-1939: Three Men Wrestling on Wooden Floor

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits requests for candid 1930s American domestic footage documenting informal male camaraderie or physical play for documentary, educational, or social-history productions.

Period detail

Subjects wear dark casual trousers and what appears to be a striped top on one figure, consistent with everyday American menswear of the late 1930s.

Home-movie behavior

The extremely tight handheld framing reflects an amateur filmmaker pressing close to an unscripted moment of roughhousing, capturing spontaneous physical play without staging.

What appears in frame

Wooden indoor floor, dark casual trousers and jackets, grappling limbs, a striped top on one figure, crouched and prone bodies, ambient interior light, heavy grain, and vignette borders.

Film character

Heavy silver grain, dark vignetting at frame edges, motion blur across moving figures, and soft focus throughout are consistent with consumer 8mm film from the late 1930s.

Edit role

Works as a quick insert or memory beat within a sequence on Depression-era youth, domestic leisure, or informal American family life.

Historical context

Informal male roughhousing filmed at home was common domestic entertainment in 1930s America, reflecting leisure culture in small-town Pacific Northwest households.

Research note

Adult subjects are partially identifiable in at least one frame; likeness rights should be assessed regardless of era, and copyright status of the original film requires independent verification.

Research search match

Researchers may search for 1930s black-and-white home movie of young men wrestling indoors, Depression-era American youth, or 8mm domestic leisure footage.

Archive pairing path

Pair first with other clips from the same Chelan, Washington source reel, then with 1930s Pacific Northwest home movies, then with period footage of male leisure or physical play.
