Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: This 1939 Chelan, Washington 8mm home-movie clip supports documentary or museum requests for late-1930s American lake leisure, boating, and family travel footage.
Period detail: The clothing, including a fedora, brimmed hats, sunglasses, a dark suit, and a light neck scarf, gives visible late-1930s leisure clues consistent with the supplied 1939 date.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has unstaged home-movie value in its casual boat-ride framing, with companions looking around, facing the camera, and enjoying movement across sunlit water.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include passengers on a boat, a forested shoreline, bright lake water, wake or churning water, hats, sunglasses, a light scarf, and strong midday sunlight.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, uneven exposure, visible grain, gate edges, slight color fading, and handheld framing that read as authentic home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, memory beat, or transition for 1930s leisure travel, lake vacation, family outing, or boat-cruise sequences.
Historical context: The footage offers a small social view of prewar American recreation, showing well-dressed adults relaxing on a boat rather than a formal public event.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness and privacy review may be needed in addition to copyright review; no logos, children, or private property are evident in these frames.
Research search match: Likely researcher searches include 1939 Chelan Washington 8mm boating, 1930s family lake vacation, vintage home movie boat ride, and American leisure travel footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then with other 1939 Chelan or Washington lake footage, and then with broader 1930s boating, vacation, and family leisure material.
