Woman Water Skiing near Tree-Lined Shore — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from Michigan, USA, in 1961 captures a woman water skiing on a calm lake. The grainy, low-resolution film shows her gliding across the water, creating a white wake behind her, with a tree-lined shore in the background. She wears a light-colored swimsuit and holds a tow rope, maintaining balance as she skis. The footage exhibits classic Super 8 film characteristics—soft focus, natural color fading, and visible grain—offering authentic retro nostalgia. The clip includes a brief moment of instability, suggesting a near wipeout, before she regains control. This archival home movie provides a candid glimpse into mid-century recreational activities.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for archival requests needing early 1960s Michigan home-movie recreation footage, especially lake leisure, water skiing, summer vacation, or near-fall action inserts.
Period detail: The clip shows 8mm-era color home-movie texture and mid-century recreational water skiing, with no visible landmarks or brands to verify a more specific setting beyond the supplied Michigan 1961 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the unstaged distance view of a woman balancing behind a tow line, including a brief unstable moment that feels like family-shot vacation footage rather than a staged sports scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a woman water skiing, lake water, white spray, tow rope, wooded shoreline, soft focus, dark film borders, and a contact-sheet frame with one blank or exposed panel.
Film character: The footage has a soft, grainy 8mm look with muted color, uneven exposure, slight blur, and black frame edges that signal original physical-film capture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short recreation insert, summer-memory cutaway, lake-life transition, or visual beat for balance, speed, and a near wipeout.
Historical context: The footage places recreational water skiing within a family home-movie context, showing outdoor leisure on a tree-lined lake without enough visual evidence to identify the exact lake or participants.
Research note: A person is visible at a distance, so likeness review may still be needed; no logos, music, or private property are apparent, but copyright and personal rights should be assessed separately.
Research search match: Research matches include 1960s Michigan water skiing home movie, woman skiing on lake, vintage 8mm summer recreation, family vacation lake footage, and near wipeout water ski clip.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then Michigan or 1961 lake footage, then broader 1960s summer recreation, boating, water sports, and family vacation material.
