Water Skiing On A Calm Lake On A Single Water Ski — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1961 showing a person water skiing on a calm lake in Michigan. The skier, wearing a dark swimsuit and life vest, glides across the water on a single ski, creating a white wake behind them. Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports requests for early 1960s American lake recreation footage for documentary, museum, education, or commercial sequences about summer leisure and water sports.
Period detail: The 8mm frame shape, soft color, grain, and metadata-supported 1961 date place the scene in early 1960s home-movie vacation footage.
Home-movie behavior: The clip preserves an unstaged shore-side view of a skier passing across a lake, emphasizing family-vacation observation rather than formal sports coverage.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a single water skier, tow rope, one ski, white spray, calm lake water, dark frame borders, wooded shoreline, and bright daylight.
Film character: The footage has a soft 8mm home-movie texture with visible grain, slight blur, uneven exposure, and dark contact-frame edges that preserve the physical-film feel.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short insert, summer-memory beat, water-sports cutaway, or transition within a broader sequence about vacations or outdoor recreation.
Historical context: The scene reflects midcentury recreational lake use in Michigan, showing informal water skiing on a quiet wooded lake without visible commercial signage.
Research note: A person is visible but not clearly identifiable; copyright, likeness, and any location-related permissions should be reviewed separately before use.
Research search match: Likely search matches include 1961 Michigan lake water skiing, 8mm home movie summer vacation, single-ski water skier, and vintage family recreation footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then Michigan or 1961 lake footage, and then broader vintage summer vacation or water-sports scenes.
