Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s Michigan lake recreation footage suited to documentary or editorial requests for summer leisure, motorboating, and early water-sport home movies.
Period detail: The 8mm home-movie framing, swimwear, small motorboat, and wooded lakeshore support a mid-century recreational setting, with the supplied metadata dating it to 1961 Michigan.
Home-movie behavior: An amateur camera follows a person being towed across the lake, preserving an unstaged family or vacation view of water-sport activity.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a small motorboat, a towed rider, white wake, rippled lake water, distant treeline, overcast sky, and dark film-frame borders.
Film character: The clip has soft focus, muted natural color, visible grain, slight exposure variation, and contact-frame borders consistent with scanned 8mm home-movie material.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief insert, summer recreation cutaway, lake-life transition, or memory beat in a sequence about mid-century leisure.
Historical context: The footage shows recreational boating and towed water sport on an inland lake, reflecting informal outdoor leisure rather than a staged sporting event.
Research note: A person is visible at distance, so likeness review may be needed; no logos or private property are apparent, and copyright clearance is separate from depicted-person rights.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1961 Michigan 8mm lake footage, vintage water-sport home movie, motorboat towing rider, and 1960s summer recreation.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with nearby shots from the same reel, then other 1961 Michigan lake scenes, then broader vintage boating or water-sport home movies.
