Water Skier on Lake in Vintage 8mm Footage — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from Michigan USA in 1961 captures a person water skiing on a calm lake. The skier, wearing a bright orange outfit, glides across the water, leaving a white wake behind. The scene is framed by dark borders, with visible film grain and scratches, characteristic of Super 8 footage. Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for archival requests needing early 1960s Michigan lake recreation, water-skiing leisure, or brief home-movie inserts of outdoor American summer activity.
Period detail: The 8mm color footage may show 1961-era recreational boating and water skiing, with period clues limited to the small runabout, orange ski clothing, and home-movie framing.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has unstaged family-film value, observing a distant skier crossing the lake while the camera follows the action from shore or another boat.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a water skier in orange, a small motorboat, white wake, calm lake surface, dark contact-frame borders, and a tree-lined shore.
Film character: The footage carries an 8mm home-movie texture with soft focus, visible grain, vertical scratches, slight exposure variation, and handheld framing.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short insert, memory beat, recreational cutaway, or transition within sequences about summer leisure, lakes, or midcentury family travel.
Historical context: The scene reflects recreational lake use in Michigan in 1961 without identifying the lake, people, boat make, or specific community.
Research note: People are visible at a distance, so likeness review may still be needed; no logos or private property are apparent, and copyright clearance is separate from appearance rights.
Research search match: Searches such as 1960s Michigan lake water skiing, vintage 8mm boating, home movie summer recreation, or midcentury water sports would likely match this clip.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then other 1961 Michigan lake scenes, then broader vintage boating, water skiing, and outdoor recreation material.
