Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: This clip supports 1960s American recreation and water-sports requests needing brief home-movie footage of nighttime water skiing on a lake.
Period detail: The 8mm color, dark swimsuit, tow rope, and boat-lit lake scene may show early 1960s leisure filming practices consistent with the supplied 1962 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the informal home-movie view of a skier being followed at night, with motion and exposure changing as the boat and camera try to keep up.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a woman on water skis, a tow rope, lake spray, dark shoreline trees, black water, and a strong blue-white light from the filming direction.
Film character: The footage has heavy 8mm grain, low-light color shifts, soft focus, and handheld tracking that give the scene a distinctly physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short insert, transition, or memory beat for summer recreation, lakeside nightlife, amateur sports, or family vacation sequences.
Historical context: The clip visually documents recreational water skiing as a social leisure activity, while the night setting and artificial illumination make the scene more unusual than standard daytime lake footage.
Research note: People are visible and likeness review may be needed, while no logos, audible music, or clearly identifiable private property are apparent from the supplied frames.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1960s 8mm night water skiing, woman water skier on lake, St. Paul Minnesota home movie lake recreation, and vintage tow rope water sports footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then with other 1962 St. Paul or Minnesota lake material, and then with broader 1960s summer recreation and boat-sport clips.
