1953: Four young men compete in a backstroke race at a swimming pool in Cottonwood, Arizona. Filmed on vintage 8mm film, this home movie captures teens in swim trunks and speedos gliding through the water with long arms and powerful kicks. The chlorine-scented pool features swim lanes and a rope marker, with splashes and waves marking the intensity of the race. A nostalgic snapshot of mid-century American youth culture and competitive swimming, this authentic home movie footage offers a rare glimpse into a 1950s swim meet with a buzz-cut, energetic atmosphere and classic Americana charm.
