Washington DC-1948: Multiple Bears in Concrete Zoo Enclosure

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for 1940s documentary edits needing home-movie zoo footage of bears in a Washington, DC animal enclosure.

Period detail

The concrete-and-rock zoo habitat, 8mm color texture, and 1948 metadata place the scene within mid-century recreational animal display.

Home-movie behavior

The camera observes from a visitor viewpoint, holding on the bears as they sit, walk, and gather without staged action.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include multiple bears, rocky concrete walls, tiered ledges, a dark doorway, open floor space, and sunlit enclosure surfaces.

Film character

The clip has soft 8mm grain, warm color, slight blur, and handheld framing that preserve the feel of an amateur mid-century reel.

Edit role

An editor could use this as a brief cutaway, zoo-life insert, animal-captivity reference, or memory beat within a 1940s sequence.

Historical context

The footage shows bears in a hard-surfaced zoo enclosure, offering visual context for mid-century public animal exhibits without identifying the zoo by landmark.
