Woman Smoking Cigarette In Farm Field During Work — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1957, this vintage home movie captures a woman in a black halter top and light-colored pants walking through a cultivated field in Michigan. She smiles and holds a cigarette as she moves between rows of young plants under an overcast sky. Another woman in a patterned dress and a man in a white shirt and blue cap appear briefly, all engaged in farm work. The footage shows natural film grain, slight motion blur, and the characteristic frame edges of an old home movie, evoking a nostalgic mid-century American rural scene.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for requests needing 1950s American rural home-movie footage of field work, farm labor, or informal women-at-work moments for documentary or educational edits.
Period detail: The clothing, 8mm color stock, and metadata-supported 1957 Michigan setting place the scene in a mid-century rural context without visible landmarks or brands.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the casual, unstaged behavior: a woman smiles while holding a cigarette as adults move through crop rows during outdoor work.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a woman in a black halter top, cigarette, crop rows, sandy field soil, tree line, overcast sky, another woman in a dress, and a man in a cap.
Film character: The clip has soft 8mm color, visible grain, handheld framing, slight motion blur, and dark frame edges that preserve its home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief insert, rural labor cutaway, smoking-era detail, or memory beat between broader farm or family-life scenes.
Historical context: The footage may show informal family or community farm work in Michigan, with adults dressed for warm-weather field activity rather than posed documentation.
Research note: People are visible, so likeness and privacy review may be needed; no logos, music, or obvious private property are visible, and copyright status is separate from depicted-person clearance.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1957 Michigan farm field home movie, woman smoking in crop rows, mid-century rural work, 8mm agricultural footage, and adults working outdoors.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1957 Michigan rural scenes, then broader mid-century farm work, tobacco, or outdoor labor footage.
