Pair Of Gnus Grazing In Green Grass On A Clear Day — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1969, this vintage home movie captures a pair of antelopes grazing in a lush green field in South Africa. The first animal, a large male with long, spiraling horns, feeds calmly in the foreground, while a second, smaller antelope appears later in the frame. The scene unfolds under a clear sky, with a distant waterline visible beyond the grassy plain. The footage exhibits natural film grain and the characteristic framing of a home movie, offering a nostalgic glimpse into African wildlife from the late 1960s.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s South Africa wildlife footage for productions needing a brief natural-history cutaway of grazing antelope on original 8mm home-movie film.
Period detail: The clip may show late-1960s amateur wildlife filming, with period clues mainly in the 8mm color stock, soft exposure, and contact-print framing rather than visible human-made details.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the quiet, unstaged observation of animals grazing from a visitor or traveler perspective, with no visible people directing the scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two horned antelope or gnu-like animals, green grass, a distant waterline, open plain, clear daylight, soft film grain, and dark frame edges.
Film character: The footage has visible 8mm grain, slight softness, muted color, uneven exposure, and handheld framing that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a wildlife insert, travel-memory beat, natural-history transition, or quiet cutaway within a South Africa or 1960s archive sequence.
Historical context: The scene offers visual context for privately filmed wildlife viewing in South Africa, limited to animals grazing in open grassland with no visible buildings or people.
Research note: No people, logos, brands, or private property are visible, but species identification and copyright status should still be checked before licensing or publication.
Research search match: Useful search phrases include 1969 South Africa 8mm wildlife, vintage home movie antelope grazing, gnu in grassland, and African wildlife travel footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then South Africa 1969 travel or wildlife clips, then broader 1960s animal grazing and grassland material.
