Men Weighing A Large Fish On A Tripod Scale Made Of Poles — Clip Details

NIGERIA-1969: Men gather on a sandy beach to weigh a massive fish using a primitive tripod scale made of poles and a chain. Local individuals in traditional attire, including a man in a red and white striped skirt, stand alongside others in casual 1960s clothing. The large fish hangs from the scale as they observe and interact, with the ocean stretching behind them under a bright sky. Shot on 8mm film, this vintage home movie captures a moment of cultural exchange and daily life with authentic grain and color typical of Super 8 footage from the era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for requests needing 1969 Nigeria home-movie footage of coastal fish handling, local weighing practices, and informal cross-cultural observation.
Period detail: The clothing, 8mm color stock, and metadata-supported 1969 date place the scene in a late-1960s coastal setting in Nigeria.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged visitor-shot feel as men gather, look toward the hanging fish, and shift around the improvised tripod scale.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a sandy beach, ocean horizon, wooden poles, chain scale, large hanging fish, several adult men, striped wrap clothing, and casual shorts.
Film character: The footage shows 8mm grain, soft focus, bright coastal exposure, slight color fade, and handheld framing typical of scanned home-movie film.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short insert, cultural cutaway, or memory beat for coastal work, fishing, food economies, or travel in late-1960s Nigeria.
Historical context: The scene documents a public beachside weighing of a large fish without identifying the people, community, or exact coastal location.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness and contextual use should be reviewed separately from any copyright or footage-license assessment.
Research search match: Matches searches for Nigeria 1969 8mm fishing footage, men weighing large fish on beach, coastal home movie, and tripod scale fish scene.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent reel material, then with Nigeria 1969 coastal footage, then with related fishing, markets, food work, or beach community scenes.
