Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s documentary or museum edits needing New York harbor ocean-liner departure or arrival material with a home-movie viewpoint.
Period detail: The white liner, lifeboats, twin funnels, red Union Jack-style flag, and 8mm color stock support a late-1940s transatlantic travel setting.
Home-movie behavior: The clip appears filmed from nearby at dockside or across the water, catching the ship and flag as an unstaged travel observation.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include the liner hull, rows of windows, lifeboats, twin funnels with logos, deck passengers, harbor skyline haze, and a red flag in front.
Film character: The footage has soft 8mm color, handheld framing, gate edges, dust specks, mild fading, and uneven exposure typical of original home-movie film.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, travel transition, port cutaway, or memory beat for postwar ocean travel.
Historical context: The scene visually situates commercial passenger shipping in New York harbor before jet-age travel became dominant, without identifying the vessel by name.
Research note: Logos on the funnels and visible passengers warrant review for trademark, copyright context, and likeness considerations separate from footage licensing.
Research search match: Search matches include 1948 New York ocean liner, 8mm harbor ship footage, postwar transatlantic travel, docked passenger liner, and Union Jack flag.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent reel shots, then other New York 1948 harbor footage, then broader 1940s ocean-liner and passenger travel scenes.
