Night Boat on Water with Blue and Green Tones — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1961, this vintage home movie captures a dark, atmospheric night scene with deep blue and green hues. The grainy footage shows a blurry, indistinct object—possibly a boat or structure—on a body of water, with faint light reflections and motion blur suggesting movement. The image is heavily affected by film degradation, with visible scratches and a soft, dreamlike quality. This archival clip evokes a sense of mystery and nostalgia, offering raw, unfiltered footage of a quiet moment at sea.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s 8mm home-movie night water footage for productions needing an abstract Baltimore harbor or boating insert with strong blue-green color and low-light texture.
Period detail: The frames offer few datable visual clues beyond the supported 1961 8mm source, with only dark water, shoreline or boat-like forms, and heavy color cast visible.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has the unstaged feel of a home-movie camera trying to record a dim nighttime scene from a distance, preserving atmosphere more than clear subject detail.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include dark vertical film edges, blue-green water or sky tones, a pale boat- or shoreline-like shape, faint reflections, soft motion blur, and dense grain.
Film character: The footage carries strong 8mm texture through deep underexposure, coarse grain, color shift, gate edges, soft focus, and intermittent scratches.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short atmospheric insert, transition, memory beat, or abstract night-water cutaway in a sequence about travel, harbor life, or recollection.
Historical context: As home-movie material from Baltimore in 1961, it visually suggests private amateur filming around water at night without clearly identifying a vessel, landmark, or event.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible in the supplied frames, but copyright status and any location or vessel identification should still be reviewed before use.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1961 8mm night boat footage, Baltimore Maryland home movie water, blue green harbor scene, and abstract vintage boating cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent material from the same reel, then other Baltimore 1961 waterfront clips, then broader 1960s home-movie boating or night-water footage.
